Volunteering with an organization that provides crisis counseling -- women at a domestic violence shelter, victims of crime, people that call a hotline, etc. Some of your work in HR management will be working with employees who are in distress, and having this kind of volunteering experience will prepare you for those situations. It will also look good on your resume. Volunteering with an organization that involves a large number of volunteers, helping the organization to screen candidates, orient new volunteers, support the volunteers, etc. This will give you experience that will mirror what you do as an HR manager, except you will be working with volunteers (unpaid) rather than employees (paid).
