No, Blinn is just a Junior college. They only offer 2 year degrees and maybe some vocational stuff. You can take your basic courses there, but not all of the courses you would need for a 4 year degree.

Get a payroll job and eventually work your way up to being the HR manager Or apply to work at a temp agancy as the one doing the interviews. Or look for front desk type jobs such as concierge in a hotel - sort of like the information kiosk at the mall - but much more up market.

It depends what kind of degree, and what you are looking for. don't expect to get a six figure salary off the bat, you need work experience and if you didn't intern during summer vacations, you can expect to start at the bottom... from what i've seen a Human Resources Coordinator makes between 42,000 -46,000 in larger metropolitan cities.

2
Search this link, it is the occupational outlook handbook. It is done by the government and used by colleges! Good luck with your choice of degree! http://www.bls.gov/oco/

3
The salary/remuneration for a particular job is the market value for a particular profession and designation at the city/town where the office is located. Job postings at websites like Monster, Yahoo HotJobs and Careerbuilder carry information about salaries. The Govt Dept of Labor, (www.bls.gov) Bureau of statistics has information about median salaries for different professions and details of additional compensation offered. Other online resources are salary.com and payscale. Your salary will also depend on your educational qualification and how you handle your career. Volunteering with an organization that provides crisis counseling -- women at a domestic violence shelter, victims of crime, people that call a hotline, etc. Some of your work in HR management will be working with employees who are in distress, and having this kind of volunteering experience will prepare you for those situations. It will also look good on your resume. Volunteering with an organization that involves a large number of volunteers, helping the organization to screen candidates, orient new volunteers, support the volunteers, etc. This will give you experience that will mirror what you do as an HR manager, except you will be working with volunteers (unpaid) rather than employees (paid). I've been working in HR for about 20 years. HR is a great field, but right now, it's pretty flooded, so it's tough to break in. With a BA in HR, you would start as entry level management, but there's a large administrative component to it. Most people think that HR is mostly dealing with people, while in most cases, it's less than half of the job. A lot of time is spent pushing paper or processing information (they never seem to tell you that in school). While you're in school, try to get a part time/summer job or internship in an HR department, even in the school. If you're good, you can move up, but a lot will depend on the type of organization that you work for and how well they do in this economy. Don't go get a master's degree in the field until you've worked in it for a while and are sure that you like it. A master's degree in another field can be just as useful (management, finance, industrial psychology, etc.) and can give you more flexibility. Good luck! For more info on the field, go to www.shrm.org

Human resource management incorporates everything concerning personnel, so that someone with a degree can work as a manager in a personnel department. Human resource development is more specific. It focuses on improving personnel through training, selection, and other methods. The goals of human resource development are worthwhile for improving organizational productivity, whereas the goals of human resource management are more general and vague. However, many employers are impressed if you have any type of "management" degree, especially if you want a higher-level or higher-paying job. HUMAN RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT: Human Resource Development is the framework for helping employees develop their personal and organizational skills, knowledge, and abilities. Human Resource Development includes such opportunities as employee training, employee career development, performance management and development, coaching, succession planning, key employee identification, tuition assistance, and organization development. The focus of all aspects of Human Resource Development is on developing the most superior workforce so that the organization and individual employees can accomplish their work goals in service to customers. Human Resource Development can be formal such as in classroom training, a college course, or an organizational planned change effort. Human Resource Development can also be informal as in employee coaching by a manager. Healthy organizations believe in Human Resource Development and cover all of these bases. HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT: Human Resource Management (HRM) is the function within an organization that focuses on recruitment of, management of, and providing direction for the people who work in the organization. Human Resource Management can also be performed by line managers. Human Resource Management is the organizational function that deals with issues related to people such as compensation, hiring, performance management, organization development, safety, wellness, benefits, employee motivation, communication, administration, and training.

Is a Human Resource Degree benefical than a Procurement Degree

Is a Human Resource Degree benefical than a Procurement Degree?
I am have a difficult time trying to obtain a degree in HR or Procurement. I already have 4 degree, in which, 2 of them are in Communications. I am currently working as a contract Procurement Coordinator in the aerospace business. My mother was telling me that it would be very hard trying to find a job in HR due to outsourcing of American jobs. She told me that maybe I should consider a 2 Master's degree in Procurement. But , I like the idea that I can help someone get a career. I know that it is more to it than just helping people; they are laws to follow. I am not sure. I am looking at the long-time career opportunties and the pay as well. I see that HR Managers make a little more than Procurement Agents. What would you do if were in my shoes.

Your experience in procurement is going to be much more valuable than going back to school. HR is a very good field, and a Masters would be helpful in the field, but experience is much more helpful. Since you're in procurement (buying), stick with it, build a good many years of experience, great references, and look for jobs with growing companies who are doing international business. Once you have 5+ years in procurement, you will be a good candidate for jobs with companies like Boeing, Lockheed, Caterpillar, Exxon, GE, etc.

I am considering doing the same thing. From my understanding, the MS is more specialized whereas the MBA is more broad.

as such if u look at the study part there is no major difference just the title differ .actually some colleges offer MA and some MSC . MA is the masters one that is u will get the degree similar to one we get in MA -- english , economics etc etc but in Msc U WILL get degree just for mba . moreover some reputed colleges give diploma thats eqivalent to degree thats PDGHRM -- post graduate diploma in hrm SO DONT WORRY THEY R ALL the same just for the heck of it they have changed the name of the courses!

3
go for ms or master of hrm. dont go for mba (hrm) because you wont become a specialist in hr.mba will waste your time ,teaching you several fields in management and doesnt make you a specialist.

To be honest, none of those are very close to human resources. Finance and insurance are probably the closest. Your best bet if you want an a master's degree in human resources is to go for a master's degree in human resources. Many colleges offer these programs. From what I have seen in my area, most colleges offer a concentration in human resources for MBA students. A few offer full human resources degrees.

I'm planning on getting my masters at a French University and studying to be a generalist; as well as completing an internship before I return to the states. Transfer in what sense? Your degree will be recognized as a Masters regardless of where you are. If you intend on using the degree earned in France as a stepping stone to another school in the US, then it may be trickier. If you just intend to come back to the states to work - then there's no problem. You'll still be recognized as having a Master's degree.

Am I wasting my time getting my Master's Degree in Human Resource Management?
What is up with this field? All employers want is experience. Everybody has to start somewhere. I have no HR experience, but have years of administrative experience. Give me a break already. HR is a snobbish field. No, I know most want experience, but it is not like it is rocket science or finding a cure for cancer. A Master's Degree should be sufficient to get a job in HR.
Higher Education (University +) - 3 Answers

It's not just HR. Most positions require experience. The hardest part is getting your foot in the door, unless of course, it just happens to be an entry level position. If you get an interview for an HR position, you just have to sell yourself. Not having experience yet doesn't mean you can't do the job or that you are guaranteed not to be hired.

2
Try to do internships if you can during your school and make sure that your school has a good alumni network. That might enable to get good jobs. I do not believe that a Masters is a waste of time, but unfortunately many employers want more and better experience than one can possibly provide. I feel your pain. Also look at my question: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AkyVkOiEjW5ZeLUv6J5Eq2bsy6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20090508084601AAVBua1

There are also certifications you can obtain through the American Management Association. These help you obtain a job. From my observations, most HR people do three things well: arrive at 9:03AM, take an hour and a half lunch, and leave at 4:57PM. Oh, they are also very good at telling you to "look it up on the company website".

Most employers looking for a human resources officer generally require at least a bachelor's degree in the field. However, the associate's degree is definitely a start. That being said, it looks like Virginia College is not regionally accredited. It's website says it is "Accredited by the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools," which is NOT a regional accreditation agency. Regional accreditation is CRUCIAL in the USA in order to have your degree universally recognized. Therefore, as a career/technical school, the curriculum will help you. The degree itself, though, is not going to be accepted by all employers.

Human Resource Management is the preferable field, versus Health Care Management. The Reason: - more opportunities - more potential jobs - higher starting salary - can be used in a number of areas (such as politics, for later on) Health Care Management is restricted in its application and the opportunities are limited and confined. Good luck in your future endeavours.

Background qualifications for probation officers and correctional treatment specialists vary by State, but a bachelor̢۪s degree in social work, criminal justice, or a related field is usually required. Some employers require previous experience or a master̢۪s degree in criminal justice, social work, psychology, or a related field. Human resources would not quailfy as a related field.

should i take the bachelor degree in hotel management or human resource management

should i take the bachelor degree in hotel management or human resource management?
i have heard both pros and cons of both majors. now im having a real hard time to deside which one i i should take. my opinion is : Human Resource Management would get better salaries, but would it be required to get higher degree (MBA??) in order to get a good position in HRM and as well as a good salary?? also i've heard that you dont even need a degree to get a job in HRM? is that true? as for Hotel Management, i am not sure i'd like to deal with all kinds of custumers, i am not a very good at being patient. but would there be more job opportunities than HRM? anyways, i would go for the one with good salary and good job opportunties regardless of anything. any suggestions would be a great help to me now. thanks!

Human resource management possibilities outside the hotel industry, but skills you could use within it.

2
HRM is the one but you need to instill patience in yourself. It's a necessary quality. Hotel Management is OK but tends to be a job where you are waiting for an existing manager to retire or die. Also it's a 24 hour a day job, even if you're not on duty, you're still responsible.

3
Stick with the HRM unless you want your job to your life. Take from someone in the Hotel Industry.

4
Personally I'd take Human Resource Management. You might go into a career in Hotel Management and realize it just isn't for you. With Human Resource Management, you'd be much more marketable, and still be able to go into Hotel Management if you wanted to. As far as not needing a degree to go into Human Resources, that's only true to an extent. Many people who work in Human Resources don't have a degree, but their chances of moving up the corporate ladder and being promoted are not as great as someone who has a degree. One of my friends has a degree in Human Resource Management, and he got a position right out of Uni making 40K£ at a huge corporation. He says anyone without a degree could never get a job like that. My advice would be to get a degree in HR. Not only is it more versatile, but you'd certainly be more marketable in an already competitive field.

5
You should pick something that's going to make you happy. It's no use picking either one of them if your aren't going to love your job. A good salary is going to mean nothing if you don't like it. For hotel management, you need to have really good people skills. You have to be patient because you are going to be dealing with a lot of nasty people that you have to help and show concern for. Which job would you not mind getting up every day for?

In HR? Probably not too valuable. You won't get anything higher than the entry-level HR positions with an AA/AS degree. You definitely should check with the HR department at your airline and see what they suggest. You may even find out the airline has an education program you can get involved with or get a scholarship from. Alot of big businesses have education perks for employees. Depends on the airline, your contract (assuming you are union), and the solvency of said airline.

2
It's all about how you stack up against the competition. You always have to sell yourself. An associate degree is not as good as a bachelor's degree. But it takes a lot less time to acquire. The McKinley College HR course outline (see source link below) looks pretty impressive. It looks to me like they really do teach you some great skills for the HR career. Like everything else in life, you have to weigh the pros and cons. How will your associate degree plus 6 yrs experience compare to other job applicants? Here's an idea: look online to find HR resumes. That way you can get a sense of what you need in order to compete. Good Luck!

HR is a very competitive field to get into. You can start as an HR assistant somewhere and learn about it, but to really understand labor laws you need an education. There can also be a lot of recruitment involved with HR, as well as keeping employee morale up, and you deal with people all day long, so if you nor patient, that may not be a good choice for you either.

Human Resources - definitely. You will have a much wider variety of job positions available to you. Like most jobs you would probably have to start out taking an entry level position - possibly as an assistant in an HR department (try finding something to do while you are still going to school so you can graduate and already have a little experience).

I'd say Hotel Management because you can go into all sorts of fields in the hospitality industry and with so many competitors out there, they'll be looking for those degrees! The HR field does usually require an MBA to get the big bucks, and it takes quite some time to find a position because there are so many people with the same degree. Another consideration if it's an option for you? Get a degree in Business Administration. You can go anywhere with it.

I am a Human Resources Manager at my company. I do not have a degree in HR, though I do have a 4-year college degree. I have been in HR for almost 5 years now. I am 27, and got started in HR about a year out of college in an entry-level HR/Payroll assistant job. I wasn't making a lot of money at the time, but now I consider my salary to be adequate. I recently earned my SPHR designation, which is the preferred professional credential in the HR field. I would say that HRM will offer the chance for much more variety and upward mobility over Hotel Mgmt.

HR is my background so I can give you some good feedback since all of my HR management experience is in the hospitality field (hotels). You are correct in that you don't necessarily need an HRM degree to get into HR, although it is a plus but you will not get rejected for not having a degree specifically in HR. Just look on-line or in the paper, most HR ads require a Bachelors Degree in a related field (business administration) and/or at least 5 years of HR experience (that's for a Director's position). My advise is to get a BA in Business Administration with emphasis in HR & Hotel. As to the salary, HR positions pay more and do offer more advancement opportunities. Plus why limit yourself to Hotel Management when you can practice HR just about in any company. I noticed you commented on "not liking the idea of dealing with customers because you're not very patient" well let me tell you in the 10 years of HR experience I can tell you the field of HR is ALL about being patient as you deal with the littlest, insignificant issues that employees come to you with. You must listen to their needs and counsel them and this my friend requires patience. I loved working in the Hotel business, but in the HR department. I would personally prefer working M-F, day hours and had I taken on a different position, say Front Desk Manager, Director of Housekeeping, Restaurant Manager etc., I would be working odd hours, way too much stress within those departments and too many customer service issues to deal with. I was very happy in my little department with my two assistants. Hope this information has helped you decide.

What kind of career can I get with a General Business or Human Resources Degree

What kind of career can I get with a General Business or Human Resources Degree?
I will be transferring to a University next year and I am not sure of what to major in. I am sure that I want to stay in the business field with maybe minor in Human Resources. I am just not sure what I would like to go into once I graduate. If I major in Human Resources what kind of career could I get and what kind of salary? Also, what kind of career can I have with a General Business Degree?

With human resources, they are going to want to put you in the human resources department of what ever company you are applying for. Human resource departments are usually small and it may be difficult getting a job in human resources. With a general business degree, you can work anywhere from managing a walmart or taco bell to being a bank manager or account manager. You might have more options with the business degree.

A degree in Finance, Human Resource Management or International Business

A degree in Finance, Human Resource Management or International Business?
I am trying to get my bachelor degree in Finance, however, I found out that I don't like this major. I am thinking about switching to Human Resource Management or International Business, but many people told me that a degree in Finance opens more doors...

If you don't like Finance, don't major in it. International Business has much wider applicability than Human Resources.

I would not let other people decide for me, or define who I am. Among the most "lucrative" opportunities available out there (say, among the highest paying jobs, professions, or entrepreneurial endeavors), which opportunity best matches your strengths. Which excites you the most? Which is something you seem to be cut out to doing your best at? One clue to what your true strengths and inclinations are, are the activities you've done successfully in the past... the achievements you enjoyed the most... the achievements you recall being most passionate about. It is difficult enough to succeed and be the best at any field. It is more difficult if you are not cut out for it, and especially if you are not happy doing it. When you do what you love, you are far more likely to succeed at it.

Human Resorces can be a rewarding career. Positives: It definitely appeals to the people side of business, and avoids overly-analytical perspectives. You are definitely in the know, and will know many corporate secrets...without the rumor mill feeding you misinformation. Its also a wide discipline...training, counseling, recruiting, and researching are all under the wide swath of HR. Negatives: The downfall is you deal with people's problems oftentimes...which can stink. Also, you officially become part of the "establishment" part of an organization...which reads NO FUN! In terms of salary, obviously this depends on experience and location. If you are fresh and have no experince, chances are you will start pre-generalist and make between $28-$33K a year. After a few years of getting 2-5% raises your top pre-generalist salary will top out at 40K or so. Generalists and HR managers can make between $35K and $60K depending on experience and whether your company lags or leads the market in terms of salary. Some of the most monetarily rewarding HR jobs can be recriters...some companies use a commission structure on top of a base salary that rewards you for the length of a recruitee's tenure. I have three friends in this field that range from $30K for a junior level, $70-90K for a senior headhunter, all the way to $150K for a guy that started his own recruiting business. These are not set in stone amounts...remember that many components make up a salary (your negotiation, experience, company policy, geography etc).

2
Many different positions in the human resources field - benefits, discrimination, et al.

3
There are many different avenues you could take. If you're a new grad without experience, you might think about what aspects of what you studied you enjoyed the most. There are entry level jobs in benefits, salary administration, HR programs, training and development, recruiting, etc. If you've got some experience then your options widen. You can be an HR generalist (someone who understands all aspects of the HR world) or you could be an HR business partner ('attached' or aligned to part of the business, working with the managers to make sure they are managing their 'people' assets). The big buzz in HR today is the outsourcing of alot of the administrative HR functions. So you could look at an HR consulting firm. The other big trend is in the area of 'Talent Management'. This involves recruiting, developing, and retaining top people for the company. There are also many consulting firms who do this Talent Management stuff, as well as in-house teams at larger companies. Hope that helps.

It depends on what type of financing aid you apply or qualify for. Also depends on your financing and payment plans you decide to do. Just call or go to a campus and talk to the admissions advisor. I am starting SJVC this month for the Pharmacy Tech program. I applied for the Federal Pell Grant and got over 5000$.

You should do an internship in the college human resource department as a freshmen to see if you like it. Most large companies and hotels pay between $25,000 to 40,000 for the assistant and $40,000 to 85,000 for the director of human resource.

A Human Resource Manager! Every Company with over 20 employs have one or their looking for one!!!!

2
An associate degree will increase your options much more than a mere high school education, but you will be much more limited than you would be if you earned a bachelor degree. It is not likely that you can get an entry-level management position with and associate...shoot for a B.S.

3
Your degree should qualify you for a good job in a Human Resources department of an organization. As you check job listings, check under human resources. Then you'll see the kind of jobs available. You can always call businesses or other organizations and ask if they have a human resources department. Then ask how they list job openings. It would be great at this point for you to get advice from someone in the Human Resources field. Does your school offer job placement assistance? Did you have a teacher in human resources that you liked? Is there an organization of human resource professionals in your area (many areas have them)? It's fine to ask people if they have time to advise you on your job search. Or do an internet search on jobs available in the human resource field. Once you do your research, you'll be better able to find jobs that will value and use your skills. Good luck!

4
The typical entry level position to get into human resources is an HR Assistant. In most larger companies, this person functions in an administrative role, however you would be dealing with confidential (employee related) information. You can grow into other functional areas of HR from there (recruiting, training, payroll, benefits) but most of those areas will require additional training/classes that some companies are willing to pay for.

5
You will typically start as an HR assistant. You learn the role (roughly 2 years) and after you get experience needed you can either get promoted into an HR manager (when the position becomes available) or you can apply as an HR manager at a different company. Or, you can try to be an HR manager at a smaller company. Bigger companies need experience. Then after about 2 years at a smaller company you can move to a bigger company.

6
You can qualify as a junior consultant
